Exam workbook updated.
The workbook you use in the RPL, PPL and CPL aeroplane exams changed. Its changes include a new fuel policy.
Step 1 of 4
What changed, and when
PREDICT FIRST
Workbook v3.0a changed the fuel policy used in the exams. What does CASA say the new policy reflects?
Skip the question and read on
Version 3.0a of the RPL, PPL and CPL (Aeroplane) Workbook is dated 2 December 2021. Sources: Workbook v3.0a
Its changes include crosswind limits on the take-off and landing charts, and a fuel policy that reflects CASR Part 91 or Part 135. It also uses an AVGAS specific gravity of 0.72 kg per litre in all loading systems. Sources: Workbook, significant changes
Step 2 of 4
What it means in practice
PREDICT FIRST
In the RPL or PPL exam, how much final reserve fuel does the fuel policy give a piston aeroplane under 5,700 kg MTOW by day under the VFR?
Skip the question and read on
In the RPL and PPL exams, fuel follows Table 19.02 of the Part 91 MOS for a piston or turboprop aeroplane under 5,700 kg MTOW, by day under the VFR. Sources: Workbook, fuel policy
CASA's RPLA exam page names the row: table 19.02 (2), item 1. Sources: CASA RPLA exam page
That row sets 30 minutes of final reserve fuel and marks contingency fuel N/A. Sources: MOS 19.02, item 1
To turn litres of AVGAS into kilograms in any workbook loading system, use 0.72 kg per litre. Sources: Workbook, significant changes
The take-off and landing charts now carry crosswind limits. Sources: Workbook, significant changes

RPL, PPL & CPL (Aeroplane) Workbook Version 3.0a - 02 December 2021
Changes from version 2 introduced with this version include: 1. The introduction of cross-wind limits for take-off and landing charts. 2. A change of fuel policy to reflect CASR Part 91 or CASR Part 135 requirements. 3. The specific gravity for AVGAS of 0.72 kg/litre is used for all loading systems.
The fuel policy for RPLA and PPLA exams will be in accordance with CASR Part 91 MOS, Chapter 19, Table 19.02 for Aeroplane with MTOW < 5 700 kg (piston engine or turboprop) under VFR by day.
In your RPLA exam, fuel reserves will be carried in accordance with CASR Part 91 MOS, Chapter 19, table 19.02 (2), Item 1. This applies to aeroplanes with MTOW less than 5,700 kg (piston engine or turboprop) under VFR by day.
Item 1 | Aeroplane with MTOW <= 5 700 kg (piston engine or turboprop) | VFR | 30 minutes | N/A
